Wally, my first rescue!

Happy 2012!

I'm still here in dial up land so am finding it difficult to keep up with posts!
Since my last entry, I have had several exciting developments!

AMBER was adopted in late September from a Pet Valu adoptathon while I was away in North Carolina. Nicola from Friends of Forsaken Animals helped facilitate this adoption and screen the adopter. Thank you Nicola for helping find Amber her forever home!
Amber now lives with an animal communicator and several other animal companions. I have been to visit her in her new home and she seems very happy. I have a particular soft spot for my tortie girls!

In November I was able to rescue TORI from Georgina Animal Control...I had one of those amazing adopters who just wanted to save a life...she didn't mind about age or colour! Tori was such a sad looking little girl hunkering in the multi-cat room at the shelter, not making eye contact. Once out of the cage she blossomed and settled into her new home well....unfortunately this story does not have a good ending....after  couple of weeks it became evident that she was failing physically and her new owners took her to their vet. She was in liver failure and the decision was made to euthanize her....RIP poor Tori! We tried for you and hopefully your last few weeks were good in a home where you received lots of love and attention...animal rescue is certainly full of highs and lows...this is one of those lows...

Rest in Peace sweet Tori....

After a couple of weeks Tori's adoptive parents were willing to try again and I rescued JAZZ, a sweet senior black girl from HAC who was being treated for an URI (upper respiratory infection) The odds were against Jazz for the fact that she was black, a senior and mildly unwell....She would not have lasted long at Hamilton Animal Control so her rescue was particularly sweet! Jazz has settled well into her new home with her new family. She is one lucky girl to be rescued and adopted into this great home.

I have more news but will save it for another post!

Let's hope 2012 brings with it new hope for animal rescue...I would like to see the various individuals and agencies involved in animal rescue in Ontario join together to help bring about much needed change. Together we stand...divided we fall.....

Monarch needs a home!!!

Poor Monarch has not had an easy life....

She was picked up as a stray by animal control in June of 2010 and spent 6 months living in a cage at Georgina Animal Control.

She was rescued in the nick of time on December 21 as she was on the urgent list and euthanasia was on the horizon for her. Monarch was spayed and settled into her foster home (my place!) and I began the quest to find her a home.

She didn't get along particularly well with other cats so finding her a home where she could be the only cat was difficult. She eventually found a home with a single person the end of March. She blossomed in her own domain and her new owner just loved her. Unfortunately in June I received a phone call letting me know that her new owner was in hospital and Monarch had no where to go...So Monarch is back with me again and I have recently received word that Monarch's owner is not well enough to take her back...so she is once again looking for a forever home.

She is just a lovely affectionate girl and even gets along with a few of my cats when they pay her visits in her room so she may be able to be homed in an environment with another laid back cat (or two!)

I'm really hoping she will be able to find a stable environment soon as she has been homeless for so long....In the meantime she lives in my office room and lies beside me as I use the computer, purring constantly from when I enter the room until I have to leave...she just craves company!

So, if anyone knows of a potential home for my little Monarch girl, please let me know!

Graham Adopted!

Sweet Graham was adopted by a great family and he is doing very well! He is sharing his new home with a rescued (formerly feral) black girl who is just a little beauty and has come around so well since being rescued last fall by this wonderful family!

Now just to find forever homes for Akalina, Monarch, Manny, Darla and Amber!!

Time Fies!

Amber's official HAC picture

Graham at HAC

Graham...happy to be rescued!

Wow, I can't believe it's time to start a new calendar and this blog has been neglected! I have been super-busy with more rescues than ever this year and have just had not time...adding to that the fact I am still on dial up in my home as the high speed option on the horizon last year never materialized for our area...so checking and uploading pictures for the Blog is a challenge!
I wanted to back track and give data on 2010's rescues and do a good history and so on but I'm going to just start or I will never do this at all!
I will try to submit a couple of pictures of my two newest rescues from Hamilton Animal Control:
Amber the very sweet tortie and Graham the mellow lovely buff tabby boy! They were rescued from HAC on July 17.
It was my first trip into HAC myself and for all the bad press HAC gets for their euthanizing rates (which is probably deserved as they are atrocious!) the place was clean and bright the staff were friendly and helpful and the animals certainly all seemed well taken care of...so it's not all bad there...
Well, I don't know what happened with importing the pictures, but I can't make them fit better or label the ones of Amber! I will publish this imperfect blog anyway as it's taken awhile even to do this!!

Welcome to my new rescue blog!

Well, I've been meaning to do this for awhile! Thought I'd better get a blog before my new 2011 cat calendar is printed so that people can see what I am doing with their donations!
Please bear with me as I'm new to blogging and may take awhile to get everything the way I would like....
What I plan to do is to keep an open record of all donations to my animal rescue/spay and neuter project...small as it may be...and write and post pictures related to any rescues I am involved with.
I will write more about my history later, but for now I will say that what motivated me to start my own project was the fact that whenever I found an abandoned dog or a mom cat and kittens needing to be adopted no animal welfare group or agency was able to help me. I donated money and time to various causes, but they always said "sorry we're overwhelmed, we can't help at this time." So....I decided to do what I could do myself and use the money previously donated to other agencies to do my own good deeds. It's very gratifying, even if it is just a drop in the bucket!
Thanks for reading and I will write more soon!
